Product & UX Design
Design for software that people are required to use is a different discipline from design for software they choose to browse.
For internal tools, portals and operational systems, the measure is not delight — it is how few steps stand between intent and outcome, how obvious the recovery is when someone makes a mistake, and how well it holds up on the four-hundredth use. Interfaces that photograph well often perform badly against all three.
We deliver design as a system rather than a set of screens: tokens, components, states and rules. Screens describe what the first ten pages look like; a system tells your engineers what the next hundred should look like without asking.
Scope
What the work includes.
Written into the scope before anything starts, so there is nothing to discover on the invoice.
Research with real users
Interviews and observation with the people who will use the thing daily, including whatever workaround they have already invented.
Flows before screens
The path through a task mapped and agreed first, so visual design solves a settled problem rather than disguising an unsettled one.
A design system, not a mockup set
Tokens, components and states documented so engineering can build screens you never drew.
Accessibility built in
Contrast, focus order, keyboard paths and semantics designed from the start — retrofitting accessibility means redrawing it.
Prototypes that answer questions
Interactive prototypes for the flows where opinions genuinely differ, so the argument is settled before it is built.
Questions
Before you commit.
Yes, and it is a common engagement. We deliver a documented design system with tokens, components and states that your team implements. We will work in whatever framework they use so the handover is code-shaped rather than a folder of images.
Less than agencies usually sell and more than most clients want. For an internal tool, half a dozen sessions with actual users typically surfaces every significant problem — the returns fall off quickly after that. What is never optional is talking to the people who will use it, because commissioning stakeholders reliably describe the process as designed rather than as performed.
We work within an existing brand and will extend it into a digital system — type scale, colour tokens, spacing, components. Full brand identity from scratch is a different discipline and we will refer you to people who do it properly rather than approximate it.
